How to introduce yourself in French
Introduce yourself and meet someone new.
I can say my name and ask someone theirs.
Tu or vous?
Tu is for friends, family and children. Vous is for strangers, older people and work.
Madame Morel says tu to young Sam, but Sam says vous to her. That's polite, and very French.
Je m'appelle Sam means "I call myself Sam", and je suis Sam means "I'm Sam". Both are fine.
- Comment tu t'appelles ?
- What's your name? (to a friend)
- Comment vous appelez-vous ?
- What's your name? (polite)
